Art Basel Madness (in a good way)

In Miami, come December you not only see people flock to the beach in droves to get away from the cold up north, but they converge on South Beach each year for Art Basel. This year, lots celebrities and well heeled collectors came down to celebrate art and the artists that create them. There was so much going on like always, but this year it seemed like every brand luxury or otherwise, were trying to get their events in all in a span of a week.

Since I had competing finals this years, I limited my time on the Beach at Basel.  I did, however, get a chance to attend a few events and they were very good.  Dior always impresses with their Lady Dior Art Collection to kick off Art Basel.  As a fan of the brand, I enjoyed seeing the artists’ creations and talking to one of the artist of my favorite bag in the collection, Mickelene Thomas.

Pantone also unveiled the new color of the year and we will be seeing, wearing, and buying soon, living Coral, inspired by the sea. They had a pop up at the Royal Palm Hotel to celebrate.

I got a chance to see some of Alec Monopoly’s work & watch collaboration at the Tag Heuer event in the Design District, which has become quite the art haven.  There were also many art shows and celebrations going on simultaneously and I stopped by Art Angels gallery where they unveiled some amazing pieces by well known artists and my favorite neon installation, Will Work for Art series by Anna Buono.

December is always an exciting month for me, but Basel adds just the right amount of razzle dazzle to start the month off right.
